Got in with a guy who has private land that I met at work. Got to this spot and set up my decoys at 25 paces off center. Started cutting at 615 and had a gobble in the distance. We stayed put and almost 4.5 hrs later here he comes!. The bird was hung up at about 50 yards to strut and gobble. I teased him a lil with soft purrs and he started coming closer but stopped. I took the shot and at 43 paces down he went. He was a jake but my first ohio bird. Made friends with the right guy and he wants me to take him again as he never has before. Taking a break for lunch and tryto get him one tonight.

Last night my friend and I caught a huge channel cal that went at least 30" out of the Greenville creek. Sorry, didn't have a scale and couldn't get the weight, but it was a brute. Upon looking at it, we saw that it had large black spot all over it body, both belly fins were completely black, as well as its mouth, inside and out. It also had a small growth inside its mouth (about the size of a swelled tick). We eventually let it go because we weren't sure if t was safe. Any ideas if it is diseased or what? I put a picture below. Take a look and let me know what you think.

I like to think I'm a good teacher, but my wife gave me a hunting lesson this season. On our farm in Wv. she shot a gobbler the first day in that cold rain on the first day, I was still in bed:tsk:. On the second morning she shot a jake. On Fri. first week she shot a gobbler in Washinton Co. and tagged out yesterday with another gobbler in Washington Co. Had a great hunt, we had 3 hens to our right and 3 jakes and a gobbler to our left with the decoys in the middle, she held out with the jakes and hens within 10 yards and shot the gobbler at 15 yds. I didn't get to see any of this because i was on the back side of the tree

Almost had a bird this morning on my last day hunting for the season. Was setu up on a bird about 100yds of the road when along comes Bubba and his firend who decide to stop where my truck is parked and start wailing on every turkey call made from the road. The bird I was after answered their first set of calls. So what do they keep doing but calling every 20 seconds. The bird answers back about every 5th call. He finally shuts up when he figures it out, I think. They then proceded to use the worst sounding gobble tube I think I have ever heard. Sounded like a wounded elephant. They finally decide to leave and I hear nothing else the rest of the morning. Thought about walking down to the truck and telling them what I thought but was afraid that they might think I was the turkey and get shot.

Don't get me wrong if you want to to drive around and call for birds thats fine just don't do it next to someone elses truck!!!!!!

Greetings fellow sportsmen.
I wanted to reach out and send a friendly hello to the forum.
With one day of spring turkey season left I'm anxiously awaiting Sunday morning. This is my first season attempting to bring home a gobbler. I spent a four day outing in Andover area at the New Lyme Public area. Saw one but I think we spooked him by over calling. Still a great trip. Went out last weekend to Ladue Area off 422 and didn't hear or see anything. I will most likely be heading back tomorrow to finish the season. I live in Cleveland so if anyone out there has any other suggestions or locations it would be greatly appreciated.
Come fall time my buddy and I will be returning to Ashtabula to stop some toms on a piece of private land across from our campground.
Thanks in advance for any feedback and good luck out there!
